my parents immigrated to the U.S. from bombay in the 1980s. i grew up on the east coast in a hectic house surrounded by grandparents, parents, kids, and countless aunties & uncles.

growing up, i carefully watched my mother in the kitchen. i learned what she believes to be the key to great Indian cooking: imparting flavor through aromatics -- spices, seeds, fresh roots, and chilis.

while i am very much so indian, i am also very much so american. i grew up playing basketball in the evenings and attending diwali parties on the weekend.

living in the u.s., i’ve found that i must be intentional to remain connected to my indian heritage. i started uma’s granola as a way to remain connected but in a way that feels consistent with my unique upbringing.

true to my indian-american background, we infuse our american-style granola with high-quality spices that you'd find in any Indian aunty's masala dabba (spice box).

may it bring you somewhere new!
